Write about the following topic:

When people move to another country, some of them decide to follow the customs of the new country. Others prefer to keep their own customs.

Compare these two choices.
Which one do you think has more advantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer:

In a world that is becoming increasingly globalized, many people choose to migrate to another country. When they do so, they are faced with a decision about whether to follow the customs of their new home or to stick to the customs they know from their country of origin. Both choices have advantages and disadvantages, but in my opinion, following the customs of the new country has more advantages.

On the one hand, keeping one's own customs can be beneficial. It can help newcomers feel more comfortable and less homesick, and can be a way of preserving one's cultural identity. For example, people who move from Mexico to the United States might choose to celebrate Mexican holidays, such as Cinco de Mayo, even though they are not widely observed in the U.S. This can help them stay connected to their roots and feel a sense of belonging.

On the other hand, there are many advantages to following the customs of the new country. First and foremost, it can help newcomers integrate into society and build relationships with the people around them. For example, if someone moves to Japan and learns to bow when greeting others, it can help them make a good impression and show respect for Japanese culture. Additionally, following the customs of the new country can help newcomers understand and appreciate their new environment. They can learn about the history, traditions, and values of the culture they are living in, which can be a valuable learning experience. Therefore, it is evident that following the customs of the host country has far more advantages.

In conclusion, from the discussion above, it can be deduced that both choices have distinct advantages. But following the customs of the new country has more benefits. Doing so can help newcomers integrate into society, build relationships, and understand and appreciate their new environment.

Nowadays more and more professionals are migrating from developing countries to developed countries and the number of international tourists is increasing rapidly. Some people find it very easy to adapt to the new culture and lead a happy life while others find it difficult to cope with this. Now the question is’ whether those migrated population should maintain their own custom and tradition or should they adapt to the new cultures and customs? Following paragraphs investigate both views and gives a reasonable conclusion.To begin with, adjusting to the new culture is cumbersome for people who are from strong cultural background communities. It is found to be very difficult what they follow from their ancestors. For instance, people from Arabic countries who wear their traditional clothes can’t easily adapt the new dress code in a western country they move to. What they follow and believe is not easy to change and more stress from these aspects results in cultural shock. Some alien and new cultures sometimes contradict to a man’s inner belief and habit. So in this instance, they are quite adamant to change their custom and habit.In contrast, some people who have migrated to the new country easily adapt to the new cultures and live like natives. Flexibility like these gives them more advantages. For example, they are easily acceptable by the society and can make new native friends easily. Even though their traditional food preparations are unavailable there, they can enjoy local foods.In the light of aforementioned points, I believe that adapting to the new custom is better than sticking on their own culture. People can make a Good social relationship and acceptance by changing their habits.
