What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files (from a technical point of view) that are stored on a user's computer when the user visits a website or use an application. A cookie contains an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.
What cookies do?
Cookies are designed so that they allow our website to recognise the user on subsequent visits, or authorise other designated websites or tools (Google Analytics for example) to recognise these users for some specific purposes, mostly to learn about his/ her browsing statistics of the website. For almost any modern website to work properly and seamlessly, it needs to collect certain basic information on its users (not sensitive personal information) and that's what cookies do.
Types of Cookies:
Cookies may be either "persistent" cookies or "session" cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed.
