Sample Answer 1:
There have been various discoveries in last century that have helped my country to improve the people's standard of living and have made their life easier. Discoveries such as telephones, internet and advancement in medicine field have been proven to be very important for changing and shaping people’s lives. But the discovery that has proved to be most beneficial is the advancements in agriculture field such as improved irrigational facilities and improved fertilisers.
India is primarily an agricultural nation, where still 60% of the population lives in villages. People mostly depend on agriculture and related activities for their livelihood. In earlier days, people were mainly dependent on monsoon and did not have an alternative method of irrigation. If monsoon failed, it would result in drought and hundreds of people would either die or become bankrupt. Also, with the poor quality of seed and bad farming practices, the output generally remained low and the majority of the crops were destroyed by rodents and worms/insects. We were not self-sufficient in producing food grains and hence had to import it from other countries.
But with the advent of technologies and new improved farming practices, India's agricultural production has surged. We are no longer only dependent on monsoon. Although monsoon still remains as a major source of irrigation, but now we have dams and irrigational channels that provide water for cultivation throughout the year. The government has also focused on providing education on new and improved seeds, fertilisers and new farming techniques such as crop rotation. With the use of these new techniques, we have not only become self-sufficient in the production of our food grain but have a surplus amount for several years. India has also become an exporter of many food grains such as rice, wheat, sugar etc. This has not only helped our economy to grow but also made life easier for all Indians.
In a nutshell, the discoveries made in the field of agricultural have proved to be a boon for us. We are now able to feed 1.2billion people on our own and yet have a surplus amount. This has also improved the plight of farmers and has relieved huge pressure from our economy by becoming an exporter of food grain rather than an importer.

I am from Russia. In my opinion, the most beneficial discovery for people in our country has been the discovery of the outer space. Russia is the first country that launched a spacecraft with a man on the board into space. This event was a big step towards the new discoveries and brought many benefits not only for people in my country. Bellow I will give my reasons to support my answer.
First of all, all humankind made a huge step towards the mystery of our creation. Scientists had the opportunity to do the new research and experiments. Many new discoveries were made on the boards of the spacecraft in the outer space. People from all over the world watched these events. Many books with real colourful photos were written about the beginning of the space exploration. Nowadays we have a big station called "Mir" in the outer space created on the base of collaboration USA and Russia. Many people work there doing amazing experiments. From the beginning of the mankind till now people are searching some unanswered question and I believe those answers are hidden between the outer space and the journey to the outer space has opened the door of possibility to find those answers. Though it’s still the part of a science fiction that human will live outside the world someday but I believe that it’s the ultimate fact for us.
Secondly, the world became "smaller". People learnt how to exchange information very quickly by use of satellites. Television is broadcasted all over the world by use of satellites. Here in Houston, I can watch Russian programs. People got the opportunity to exchange news very quickly. The latest telecommunication systems have made the world even smaller. It takes only a few seconds to know the news around the whole world through satellite TV channels. The defence department uses these satellite technologies to get updated data about crime and criminal.
To sum up, I believe that space exploration will bring much more benefits in the future and someday we will learn what is beyond our current galaxy.
Sample Answer 3:
There have been many inventions in the past one century that has improved the people's life in my country. Here, I would like to talk about the advancement of the agriculture industry that has transformed irrigation and farming process more effectively with less wastage, reduced time and human effort.
Firstly, traditionally the irrigation was a human intense work and time-consuming process, like digging the wells, fetching the water from wells and building the passages to the field. In addition, people also depend on rain for natural irrigation, which has an adverse effect of spoiling the crops in case of excess rains. The modern inventions have facilitated the farmers to bore the wells, pump the water and sprinkle the water on the fields quickly. These inventions reduce time and effort spent on boring wells and pulling the water and wastage of water passing over the ground from one end to another end of the field.
Secondly, in olden days planting the crops or seeds were a labour- intensive process and consumes more time, the farmers used the drag or harrow to incorporate the seed into the soil. The modern technology used the machines and equipment to sow or plant the seeds evenly at a desired rate that reduces the seed wastages and time to plant the seeds into the soil. It also enables to utilise the land evenly and produce more yield on a given area.
Thus, latest innovations accelerated the farmers to produce more in a shorter span of time with reasonable costs, effort and fewer wastages compared to traditional methods.
