Model Answer 1:
In today's globalised world, intercultural marriages are becoming increasingly common. This trend is due to different factors, including increased travel and migration, improved communication technology, and greater cultural acceptance. This trend has both advantages and disadvantages that this essay will outline.
With the advancement of transportation and communication technologies, nowadays, people from different cultures can meet and interact with each other easily. In addition, migration patterns have also contributed to the increase in intercultural marriages. For instance, individuals who move to a foreign country for work or study are likely to interact with people from different cultures and may develop romantic relationships with them. Moreover, there is a growing cultural acceptance of intercultural marriages, with many societies becoming more open-minded and accepting of diversity. This shift in attitudes towards cultural differences has made it easier for people from different backgrounds to form relationships and marry.
Marrying someone from a different culture can bring a range of benefits. One advantage is the opportunity for cross-cultural learning and exchange. By being exposed to new customs and ways of life, individuals in intercultural relationships can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures, which can lead to greater tolerance and empathy. Moreover, such marriages can foster a sense of cultural fusion and diversity, which can be enriching for both partners and their families.
However, there are some potential challenges and drawbacks to marriages within different cultures. One issue is the potential for cultural misunderstandings and communication breakdowns. Cultural differences can cause conflicts in the relationship, particularly when it comes to beliefs, values, and customs. For example, differences in religious beliefs or practices can be a source of tension, especially if the couple has different expectations regarding marriage, child-rearing, or lifestyle choices.
In conclusion, the trend of crosscultural marriages is becoming more common in today's society due to increased globalization, technological development and cultural acceptance. While there are potential drawbacks and challenges, it also has many benefits.
Sample Answer 2:
Traditionally people get married to someone of the same culture, religion and country. But marrying someone from a different culture has become common and socially accepted these days. Technological advancements, changes in social belief, and freedom for choosing a life partner among the young have accelerated this trend, and cross-cultural marriages have both merits and issues that this essay will deal with.
To begin with, people, these days, use technology to make friends across the border. An increasing number of people also study abroad and live in a cross-cultural environment. This has broken their outdated social belief to a great extent, and they have a broader perspective on life and marriage. Moreover, young people have greater freedom in choosing their life partners unlike in the past when parents primarily picked a life partner for someone. Modern society also seems to have accepted this freedom and welcomes marriage beyond the known boundary.
Cross-cultural marriage has several benefits. People have different inherent features and strengths based on their culture, race, geographic location and family, and it is often noticed that children of such cross-cultural couples are stronger and have diverse capabilities. Two people from totally different cultures, when get married, take time to understand each other, and this often strengthens their conjugal relationship. Such marriage often teaches people to become more tolerant of other races, cultures and customs.
This type of marriage has some disadvantages too. Family, friends and relatives often have misconceptions of such couples and keep their distance. Mixed marriages often force people to accept an alien way of life that they cannot completely cope with. Moreover, children in such families often find it hard to adhere to a particular culture and end up adopting a pseudo-cultural identity.
To conclude, mixed-cultural marriages are nowadays more common in our society than in the past. Social changes, technology and people’s freedom to choose a life partner have greatly made it possible. Despite some problems, this type of marriage is working well to be considered a mainstream trend.
