Write about the following topic:

In many cities crime is increasing. Why do you think this is happening? What can governments do to help reduce crime levels?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer 1:
Crime is a very old phenomenon and no one knows when it actually started. The sad fact is that crime rate is increasing including killing, stealing, robbing, kidnapping, rape… etc. Actually, there are many reasons for that awful and miserable phenomenon.

Some people always look at other peoples' properties and not pleased with what they have. And that, of course, leads to hatred and then lead to misdeeds. Moreover, some people are psychiatric disordered and which in turn leads to violence. Another thing that we should take care of is the lack of necessary money; many criminals would not have become criminals if they had had enough money and other daily needs for themselves and their families. In a recent study about crimes and their reasons, professor Kathy Mac James said that 85% gangsters joined gangs due to the shortage of social welfare. She protested that this majority of gangsters were either orphan who didn't get enough care during childhood and adolescence or not married. Now it is the time to raise an important question: ‘do all the previous reasons give you the right to be a criminal? The answer comes immediately: of course not, even if you don't have a cent in your pocket.

Another important question is: What is the solution of this heinous situation? How can we overcome crime in our society? In my opinion, it's the responsibility of both the government and individuals. In fact, most of the burden is on the government and they alone cannot eliminate crime from a country. It's very important to reinforce the policemen with the latest equipment and set firmer laws to prevent criminals from thinking of crimes.

And for individuals, which includes people like you and me, we should help the needy, not only with money but also psychological help and support.

A crime in a city is like an attack of lice in your hair. The Shortage of money had made the robbers underestimated and were forced to act violently to get money and live life like riches do. We do not need to become criminals as we have money, we need to feed our family.

Every day we wake up with the news of terrifying crime stories such as robbery, rape, bribery and murders and those crimes are in every mass media. Interestingly, the crime rate has doubled or trebled in recent years and most of the offenders are youngsters. There are social, educational and financial factors that can trigger the crime rates. The government should take necessary steps to control crime rates as early as possible. To begin with, overpopulation is the main cause for dramatic increase in recent crime rates. Because of this, unemployment and poverty-dejected youth turn to be criminals. Social media also plays a vital role in offences like digital crimes. TV shows or films narrating the crime stories motivate some of the viewers and they may conduct crimes based on what they viewed on TV or cinema. In addition to that, the society, where we live in, influences our personality and character. One who lives in a place where criminals and drug addicts are common, that may change his attitude. Thus the social and financial factors affect one’s character.To continue, flexible punishments also is the reason for increasing atrocities. To control the offence the government should enhance its law and order department. Punishment should depend on the severity of the crime and capital punishment or death penalty should be imposed to aware people about the consequences of committing serious crimes. For instance, a rapist or a murder should be hung till death and these reactions would let criminals think a second time before committing any crime. Furthermore, crime rates are higher at night time and so the government should increase the number of night patrol squad. Last but not least, censor board should be more careful while approving films that might encourage people about committing crimes.Crime rates are increasing rapidly and the government should take appropriate measures to control the crime and protect the people. I hope proper education and strengthening the law and acts will help control the crime rate.
