The diagram below shows the life cycle of a salmon, from egg to adult fish.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Sample Answer 1:
The diagram depicts the life cycle of salmon fish dividing it into different stages, from its egg stage till adulthood. Overall, a salmon fish goes through six main phases to fully grow from their hatching period and they spend their lives in three distinct locations – river, estuary and ocean.
Adult salmon fishes lay eggs in rivers and incubate their eggs there. Thus the life cycle of a salmon fish springs from the incubation stage in a river. After emerging from eggs, the infant salmon spend their next stage in freshwater and this phase is called emergence. Then they stay in freshwater to grow further.
After a few days, these fishes swim to river estuaries where their rearing continues. At this stage, their size becomes a bit larger. Afterwards, the maturing fishes migrate to the ocean and become adults. Finally, grownup salmons move to the river for spawning and lay eggs. Thus the life cycle of the next generation starts over.
Model Answer 2:
The diagrammatic description is about different stages of a salmon fish's life. Overall, there are six stages in the lifecycle of salmon - starting from eggs to adult fish.
To start with, after mating, female fish lays eggs. These eggs are laid in multiple and are kept further for an incubation period. Once the incubation time is over, they undergo emergence with the formation of body and head of the fish. Later they are transformed into infant salmon, and for further rearing, these proceed to an estuary. However, from the bay, they enter into the ocean to grow and mature.
The next two cycles occur in the ocean. They take food and keep on growing further till these small fishes attain the proper size of salmon. As soon as they reach their adolescence and maturity, they start the journey back to river water for spawning. Then they swim all the way from the ocean to river to regenerate. Once again in the river, these salmons start reproducing, and the life cycle continues in the same way.

Overall, it is shown that three environments are important in the life of salmon fish (river, estuary and ocean), and their life cycle completes in several stages.
The first stage of the salmon fish is called spawning, in which adult fishes lay eggs to start the life cycle of a new generation. The laid eggs are in the incubation stage where these embryos break and then emerge in groups to continue raising. So far the developments have occurred in the river. After this, salmon goes into the estuary, in this part is a kind of medium size fish that remain growing. Once it completes its period of estuary rearing, the semi-adult fish go into the ocean, where they commence migration to raising areas. Finally, they reach adulthood and get ready to lay eggs.
