Discussion Topic - Your country.
Part 1: Introduction & Interview
Q. 1. Which part of your country do most people live in?
Answer: People in my country are spread out all over pretty much evenly except, of course, in the capital city where population density is way more than the rest of the country. On the other hand, population density in the south-west part is rather low because that part has a lot of mountains and as such, not very accessible.
Q. 2. Tell me about the main industries there.
Answer: My country is can’t exactly be considered as an industrialized one because we don’t have that many heavy industries apart from iron rod & metal manufacturing industry along with refrigerator and motorcycle manufacturing industry. We also have tea industry, garments industry, jute industry, fisheries industry and electric appliance manufacturing industry among others.
Q. 3. How easy is it to travel around your country?
Answer: My country has extensive road infrastructure networks which are pretty much crisscrossed all over the country, and as a result, travelling around my country is not really difficult. However, since we have a rather large population but not enough transportation, travelling around the country can be a little difficult sometimes. Whenever I travel to distant parts of my country with my friends or family, I rather take the train to make the journey pleasant and hassle-free.
Q. 4. Has your country changed much since you were a child?
Answer: Yes, my country has changed very significantly since I was a child as it has developed in pretty much all aspects. GDP has increased, the average income of people has increased as well, and as a result, the living standard of people has improved with it as well. People are more educated these days, and more industries and road infrastructures have also been built.
Part 3: Details Discussion
Q. 1. Do you believe that we should all be patriotic because our country has given so much to us?
Answer: Yes, I do believe that we should all be patriotic because our country has given us so much in order to make us the persons that we are today. After all, the act of patriotism paves the way for a stronger nation by uniting all the citizens together with a common goal in mind to achieve. Besides, Patriotism would allow us to take pride in our countries’ past, present and future achievements and thus become better placed to stand and rise against the difference and the enemies that try to weaken our country.
Q. 2. How can individual citizens help the country develop?
Answer: In my humble opinion, if the individual citizens do their jobs and take care of their responsibilities properly from their respective positions, there is no doubt that they will be able to help the country develop tremendously. But, if they think that just doing their jobs properly is not enough to help their country develop, they can get involved with different kinds of social and political reform programmes in order to stop anti-state and criminal activities like corruption, violence and the embezzlement of public funds. They should always pay the taxes and obey the rules in order to help develop the country.
Q. 3. Do you believe rich countries should help poorer countries? Why? / Why not?
Answer: Yes, I do believe that the rich countries have some sort of obligations to help poorer countries both financially and technologically so that the poorer countries are eventually able to stand up on their own feet. Even better, if the rich countries actually help the poor countries in finding out what exactly are hindering their developments and then prescribe appropriate remedies for them. However, the rich counties shouldn’t stop at providing financial and technological helps only but also aggressively follow up on the progress and monitor closely how the fund is being utilised.
Q. 4. How people in your country feel about their own tradition and culture?
Answer: People in my country feel rather dearly about their culture and tradition, which, they have grown up with, by sticking to them as best they can. In fact, many of them try to actively take part in different types of cultural and social programmes from time to time, not only for the purpose of celebrating their culture and tradition but also to promote them. Besides, since we consider our own tradition and culture as important parts of our life, the schools in my country play an active role to teach our children about these cultures, traditions and history of our country.
Q. 5. Is it important for the younger generation to learn about their ancestors and their lifestyle? Why?/ Why not?
Answer: The people from young generation must try to learn about their ancestors and their lifestyles to find out about the true and tested ways of doing things in a particular society. Learning about their ancestors and their lifestyles is important also because such practice actually creates an invisible yet strong bond between the youngsters and their ancestors which, in turn, actually helps the youngsters to understand about the strengths and weaknesses of their cultures and traditions.
Q. 6. How have the traditional values in your country changed over the decades?
Answer: Traditional values are important for any society, but coming in to this 21st century, it is also true that the traditional values are changing in order to make rooms for “non-traditional” values. This change in traditional values is also happening in my country where we don’t really respect the elderly that much anymore as opposed to what did before just a couple of decades ago. Besides, traditional values like visiting the relatives and neighbours every once in a while have been replaced by quick phone calls and quick chats on social media.
