Part 1: Introduction & Interview
Q. 1. Do you enjoy travelling? [Why/why not?]
Answer: I do enjoy travelling a lot as it allows me to see new places, meet new people and try new kinds of food. I like travelling also because it allows me to learn about the unknown history of a particular place which remained obscure for a long, long period of time and not to mention, the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city life.
Q. 2. Have you done much travelling? [Why/why not?]
Answer: No, I haven’t done much travelling, even though I would certainly love to do so, primarily because I still didn’t manage to save enough money to do the travelling. Besides, so far, I have remained very busy with building my career, and hence, never enough time to do the travelling. So far, I have been to more than ten cities in my country and three foreign countries.
Q. 3. Do you think it’s better to travel alone or with other people? [Why?]
Answer: I would like to travel alone primarily because I could do anything or go to any places of my choice without wasting any time in arguing or consulting. Besides, if I am travelling alone, there would be no unnecessary obstacles in your way of enjoying the things that I have always wanted. I am yet not married and that is why travelling alone would not be an issue for me.
Q. 4. Where would you like to travel in the future? [Why?]
Answer: I have several places in my mind where I would like to travel in the future, but a couple of places like Japan and Italy hold special places in my heart. I would like to visit Japan because I would like to see this great country up close many parts of which were destroyed in the last world war. I would also like to visit Italy because this is the place from where the European Renaissance started before a few centuries. I have plans to visit these two countries for their unique traditions and delicious food.
Part 3: Details Discussion.
1. Do you think travelling has become easier in recent years? Why?/Why not?
Answer: Yes, I do think that travelling has become easier in recent years for several reasons. The first reason is, of course, increased connectivity through well-maintained roads. Secondly, a better information system and an abundance of options with regards to cheap price have also made travelling easier. Thirdly, better and advanced technology like GPS (global positioning system) has certainly made travelling easier in recent years. Finally, travelling has become much easier in recent years also because many travel agencies and websites are competing with each other to increase their sales by offering impressive discounts.
Alternative Answer: Travelling was easier than ever before even a few months ago. But Covid-19 pandemic has shattered everything including how people travel these days. Things are complicated in this Corona era and travelling is even more complicated due to the risk of the spread of the virus. Not many countries are open to foreigners while many parts of the world are still in lockdown. So apart from essential travel, people have to face many restrictions when they decide to travel and in fact, people are not travelling as much as they used to do in the past.
2. Which method of travel do you consider the safest? Why?
Answer: As far as the accident rate and death rate is concerned, I would venture to say that flying by far is the safest mode of travel since it has the lowest death rate per one billion passenger miles. Besides, improvements in air traffic control technology, advancement in overall aircraft technology, increased frequency of safety audits, and some of the toughest and most stringent training and certification standards in the world have certainly made flying the safest mode of transportation.
3. What, in your opinion, are the pros and cons of low-cost air travel?
Answer: There are both advantages and disadvantages of low-cost air travel. As the name “low-cost” suggests, the main advantage of low-cost travel, of course, is they are cheap. In fact, some low-cost air travel can help people save as much as 50 to 80%. Another advantage of this low-cost air travel is that it can take much less time to reach the destination since everything, from touchdown to check-in process to boarding, is done fairly quickly.
On the contrary, one of the major disadvantages of such low-cost air travel is that most of the low-cost flights are not comfortable to fly. Besides, because of the low fares, people don’t usually get normal services like foods/snacks and papers. Another disadvantage is that with low-cost air travel, we don’t usually get to fly according to our schedules of choices.
4. Some people like to stay in the same place rather than travelling much all their life. Why?
Answer: There could be a number of reasons for which people prefer to say in the same place rather than travelling much. The first reason being is that they just prefer what familiar, normal or comfortable to them, and that’s possible only when they live in their own places. They just want customs and culture and language and food that don’t differ from their own. Besides, it is also possible that they just hate the logistics part of travel, like the planes, the currency exchange, or finding someone to take care of their lawns and houses, which prevent them from travelling to places. Interestingly, a large number of people who love to travel but can't afford it most of the time.
5. Should the government in a country focus more on rail transports or road transports? Why?
Answer: In my opinion, the government should focus more on rail transports than road transports. The first reason is that the city will benefit from a low level of carbon dioxide emission because of the reduction in road traffic due to the increasing popularity of rail service. Secondly, as more and more people will be able to use trains to travel from one place another, the number of private vehicles will be significantly reduced from the streets, and the fewer number of private vehicles is on the road, the better will be the traffic situation. Finally, travelling on a train is comparatively safer than travelling in a bus.
6. How do you think people will travel in the future?
Answer: Well, that's an interesting question. If we are talking the travelling in the near future, then I think that more and more people will be travelling through trains and the air, primarily because travelling through the air and trains has become really fast and comfortable. In fact, it is already happening in countries like China where they are making super-fast trains with a lot of luxury facilities, like double-decker trains, to offer the travellers the ultimate comforts and luxury in their travel. Besides, we will also see electric air-planes which can fly up to 650 files on a single charged battery. And in the distant future, people will have flying cars, and who knows, they might even find a way to time travel, just my imagination!
