[This part of the test begins with the examiner introducing himself or herself and checking the candidate’s identification. It then continues as an interview. In the interview, the examiner asks the candidate about his/her home, work or studies and other familiar topics.]
Topic - "Future"
Q. What job would you like to have ten years from now? [Why?]
Answer: Europe is changing very fast both economically and demographically, and therefore, it is not really that easy to plan what kind of jobs I would like to have in 10 years from now. However, seeing how the demand of technology jobs is increasing in the future, both in Europe and the rest of the world, I would like to take a job in the technology field because it would hopefully offer a better job safety.
Q. How useful will English be for your future? [Why?/Why not?]
Answer: Of course, it is always an advantage to know a foreign language like English, and I really think that it will be highly useful for my future because I am planning to move to an English speaking country for higher studies. Besides studies, English will surely help me communicate with people from other countries in my personal and professional life. Finally, knowing this language will help me read many books which are written only in English.
Q. How much travelling do you hope to do in the future? [Why?/Why not?]
Answer: I am planning to do a lot of travelling in my own country because it is a very beautiful country, and it has pretty much everything to offer. In the future, I would be able to do a lot of travelling to other foreign countries also because I should have more money and free time to spend after settling down with life and career.
Q. How do you think your life will change in the future? [Why/Why not?]
Answer: It is rather uncertain how my life will change in the future, but one thing is for sure that I will become very busy with my career because I want to have a secured financial future for myself and my family. I also want to move to a quieter place in the future, probably after 20 years or so, in order to enjoy a quiet life, away from the hustling and bustling of busy city life.
Part 2 - Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card
[The topic for your talk will be written on a card which the examiner will hand over to you. Read it carefully and then make some brief notes.]
Describe a book that you enjoyed reading because you had to think a lot.
You should say:
- what this book was
- why you decided to read it
- what reading this book made you think about
and explain why you enjoyed reading this book.
[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]
[Examiner: All right? Remember you have one to two minutes for this, so don't worry if I stop you. I'll tell you when the time is up. Can you start speaking now, please?]

Part 3 - Details discussion:
Discussion topic: "Children and reading"
Q. What are the most popular types of children's book in your country?
Answer: Well, different children like to read different types of books, depending on their ages and interests. It also depends largely on what kinds of languages are used to write those books. But, from my experience, I would say that comic, funny short stories, comedy books, detective stories and fairy tales are the most popular types of children’s book in my country, no matter what language pattern is used to write those books because all children, in general, like to laugh, get excited and be happy. Books with funny and beautiful pictures, fantasy, fairy tales and rhymes are also popular among children in my country.
Q. What are the benefits of parents reading books to their children?
Answer: There are several benefits of parents reading books to their children. One of those major benefits is that it helps their children grow interests in reading from an early age. Secondly, it also helps ensure the cognitive development of their children in a very safe environment, by teaching them about the world around them as well as improving their language skills and imagination. Finally, it would help create a very healthy and strong bond with their children which would ultimately help them become a very positive, resourceful and happy person as an adult.
Q. Should parents always let children choose the books they read?
Answer: No, parents shouldn’t always let their children choose the books they read. Please understand that “always” is the operative adverb here. It is absolutely alright to let children choose what they like to read once in a while, but it shouldn’t be the case always because some books certainly are not appropriate for children because of their age-inappropriate languages, and other obscene contents like violence and graphic sex scenes. Besides, even if we think, for the sake of debate, that there is nothing wrong with a book, as far as its contents are concerned, the chances are that the children just wouldn’t be able to process the information in it in the same way as an adult would do, which could ultimately harm a child.
Discussion topic: "Electronic books"
Q. How popular are electronic books in your country?
Answer: Well, as far as I know, I don’t really think that electronic books are that popular in my country as yet because I can see most people, professionals and students, around me today are still buying their books from their favourite book stores and reading them on a fairly regular basis instead of actually using electronic books. Of course, we all read a little electronic book here and there when working on the computers, but when it comes to serious reading, the majority of people in my country are still heavily reliant on printed books.
Q. What are the advantages of parents reading electronic books (compared to printed books)?
Answer: I think there are some advantages of reading electronic books, compared to printed books, whether they are read by the parents or anybody else. The main advantage, of course, is that they are more convenient to store and carry as they can all be kept in a single computer, tablet or e-reader. Besides, reading electronic books can be more interactive in a sense that we can actually search any page or anything in a book almost instantaneously. Finally, getting an electronic book can be far less time-consuming as we can get it on our computer from the comfort of our home, without ever running to a book store, while also paying the same or less price for it as the price of a printed book.
Q. Will electronic books ever completely replace printed books in the future?
Answer: I think that whether electronic books will completely replace the printed books in the future or not would largely depend on how easy it is for someone to have access to a computer or an e-reader. To tell the truth, there are still hundreds of millions of people in the world, who don’t have enough funds to pay for even a single meal or single printed book, and I don’t really see all of them having access to a computer or e-reader ever in the near future. So, the only option left for them is to read a printed book which is far less expensive than an e-reader or computer. Moreover, the fascination of reading a printed book is something that we would not want to sacrifice that easily in the future.
