IELTS Congratulation Letter:
In our lives, we often need to or want to give credit and accolades where they are due. When our best friend gets married or becomes a parent, we congratulate him/her. Similarly, we recognize our colleagues, friends, or family members' accomplishment/ achievement/ success by sending them a congratulation letter.
If your IELTS Letter question asks you to congratulate someone, you will have to write a congratulation letter. If you are to congratulate a friend, that would be an informal or personal letter and if you need to congratulate someone in your office, that would be either a semi-formal or formal letter.
When to write a Congratulation letter:
1. To congratulate a coworker who has been promoted in his/her job.
2. To congratulate a friend or family member on their brilliant result.
3. To congratulate a friend or family member on special events/ major life events, like a wedding day, graduation day and so on.
3. When someone achieves a success.
4. When someone gets a new job.
5. When someone has been awarded a prize for something.
What to include in a Congratulation letter:
1. Mention the achievement or success.
2. Congratulate at the beginning of the letter. Congratulate again before ending the letter.
3. Keep it positive.
4. Mention how happy you are for them.
Sample Congratulation Letters with answers:
Congratulation Letter Sample # 1:
An annual event was recently held in your area. Now you want to write to the organizers of this event congratulating them on a successful production.
Write a letter to the organizers. In your letter,
- give details of the event
- mention what you liked the most about the event
- make a polite criticism of something you thought could be improved
You should write at least 150 words.

Your best friend just had her first baby. You are currently overseas but will be returning to your hometown in a week.
Write to your friend. In your letter,
- congratulate your friend
- tell her when you will be returning home
- ask when you could drop in to meet her and the baby

Your friend has had his/her first book published a few days ago. He/she has recently sent you a copy of that book.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter,
- congratulate him/her for having his/her first book published
- thank your friend for sending you a copy of the book
- say what do you think about the book
