IELTS Essay Topic:

If you have an option to learn a new thing among learning to cook new foods, learning to make something by hand or learning to play a new sport, which one would you learn? Why?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Model Essay:
If I had three options to choose from in my life when it comes to learning something new – including learning to cook, learning to make something by hand or learning a new sport – then I would definitely choose learning a new sport.

Sports provide a good opportunity for remaining fit and meeting new friends. They also give you the chance to visit new places. Sometimes, they may even present you with a way to earn money. First, most sports are collective sports, which means that you have to play with others on a team. From this situation, you will learn new ideas from a variety of people. If you spend at least 2 hours with them per week, that would be enough time to learn something from them. Most of the elite football players in the world include their teammates amongst their best friends. Professional players visit many different countries every year. To learn about cultures that are different from your own, you need comprehensive travelling and sports allow us to travel new places.

Third, professional athletes are some of the highest paid professionals in the entire world. However, in order to gain such a vast sum of money and to be able to achieve this level of fame, one has to work very hard and s/he must continue practicing and performing very well.

In summary, I must once again mention my love for sports – especially football. My ultimate dream is that one day I will become a professional football player. Athletes are common in our society, even though there are some barriers which prevent them from following the smoothest path of their chosen sport – such as isolation from other parts of the world. However, the primary reason for playing sports is so that everyone can participate and enjoy themselves. So this skill among the given three is most preferred by me.
